Your Questions, Answered

We help low-income Texas homeowners who have experienced a covered insurance loss but cannot afford their insurance deductible. By covering a portion of the deductible, we unlock the remaining insurance funds needed to complete professional repairs. Our focus is restoring safe, stable housing — not performing construction ourselves.
-
A deductible is the portion of a covered insurance claim that the homeowner must pay out of pocket before the insurance company releases the remaining repair funds. In Texas, deductibles can range from several thousand dollars to much higher amounts — especially for storm damage.
-
When a homeowner cannot pay their deductible, insurance repairs cannot move forward. By helping cover a portion of that deductible and paying it directly to the contractor upon verified completion of work, we enable the insurance company to release the remaining funds needed to restore the home.
-
Homeowners insurance deductibles in Texas have increased in recent years as insurers shift more financial responsibility to policyholders in response to rising construction costs, inflation, and frequent costly weather events like wind, hail, and storms. Using a higher deductible helps insurers keep premiums more affordable, but it also means homeowners are responsible for a larger portion of a claim before coverage begins. In Texas, many policies now include percentage-based deductibles tied to the insured value of the home — commonly 1% to 2% of the dwelling value, and sometimes up to 5% — rather than a fixed dollar amount. For a home insured at $300,000, a 3% deductible would be $9,000 before insurance pays for repairs. This trend has made deductible costs significantly higher than the traditional flat amounts many homeowners once carried.
-
High deductibles are one of the most overlooked barriers to recovery. Many families, seniors, and veterans carry insurance but cannot access it due to the upfront cost. By focusing specifically on deductible gaps, we create measurable impact and maximize every donated dollar by activating much larger insurance-funded repairs.
-
Covered losses generally include sudden and accidental damage such as water damage from burst pipes, roof leaks caused by storms, fire damage, smoke damage, wind and hail damage, and certain natural disasters covered under a homeowner’s policy. In some cases, mold remediation may be covered if it results from a covered water event. Coverage varies by policy, so applicants must confirm with their insurance carrier that the damage has been approved as a covered claim. Our assistance applies only after the insurance claim has been verified as covered.
-
Insurance deductibles are a contractual part of your policy and are required by law to be paid by the homeowner. Insurance companies are not permitted to waive deductibles, and contractors are not legally allowed to absorb them on your behalf. The deductible represents your portion of the claim. Our foundation exists specifically to help qualified homeowners bridge that required gap when it becomes a barrier to recovery.
-
Our program provides assistance up to a defined limit, which may not cover the full deductible amount. If your deductible exceeds our maximum assistance, you may still apply, but you will be responsible for the remaining balance. Our goal is to reduce the financial burden and unlock your insurance-funded repairs, even if we cannot cover the entire deductible.
-
We do not negotiate insurance claims or advocate on behalf of policyholders. Homeowners are responsible for filing and managing their own insurance claim. Once the claim is approved as a covered loss, we verify eligibility and coordinate payment directly with the selected contractor after work is completed. Our role is to bridge the deductible gap — not to manage the claim process.
